DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

What is DoSomethingAboutIt.org.uk?
Is DoSomethingAboutIt.org.uk affiliated with any political party?
How can we make a difference?
Background

What is DoSomethingAboutIt.org.uk?

DoSomethingAboutIt.org.uk is an organisation for British progressives who want to see government

  • lay the foundations for a diverse economy, less dependent on the demands of the financial sector
  • invest in green industries and energy production, as well as the skills needed for them to flourish
  • recognise that extreme inequalities between the very richest and the rest are socially unsustainable
  • commit to a fairer society, in which social enterprise and initiative are not stifled by lack of time and resources

DoSomethingAboutIt.org.uk aims to make progressive alternatives to the political mainstream electorally viable by connecting voters who are disillusioned but not apathetic. Together, we can make our voices heard, and pressure politicians to adopt a genuinely progressive agenda. And if they do not, together we can elect politicians who will listen. Our email newsletters will keep you up-to-date on how you can get involved in the fight for a progressive future - whether by signing a petition, contacting government ministers, or writing to your local MP. If you have a cause you'd like us to champion, or a petition you'd like to see set up, please get in touch.

Is DoSomethingAboutIt.org.uk affiliated with any political party?

DoSomethingAboutIt.org.uk is independent of all political parties. We aim to support progressive candidates whatever their political affiliation - whether they be Labour, Liberal Democrat or Green, members of Plaid Cymru, the SNP, or independents. When the general election is announced, members will be able to vote to decide which of the candidates in their constituency DoSomethingAboutIt.org.uk will officially support. DoSomethingAboutIt.org.uk is run entirely by and for its members- in addition to deciding what candidates the organisation supports and what causes it champions, members are also responsible for designing publicity material, putting up posters, distributing leaflets, and spreading the word.

How can we make a difference?

Over the past decade, grassroots organisations have transformed the political landscape of the United States: making the moral high ground electorally viable, enabling politicians of principle to rise above traditional party pecking orders and entrenched special interests.

We need to put a progressive agenda on the political map here in Britain. Just by joining www.dosomethingaboutit.org.uk, you can show the government that there is a constituency for change in the UK today, that there are people willing to fight for a politics that is worth fighting for. And if you have the time to do more - whether collecting signatures, distributing leaflets, contacting MPs, organising meetings, or campaigning door-to-door for progressive candidates in your area - then by coordinating our efforts nationwide, we can make sure our voices are heard. dosomethingaboutit.org.uk is not a political party. It aims to work alongside existing parties, and help progressive voices within them speak out. Together, we can elect candidates committed to progressive goals - whether Labour or Lib Dem, members of Plaid Cymru, the SNP, or the Greens - and hold them to their promises once they are in office.

Either we change our leaders' minds, or else we change our leaders. Since 1997, voter turnout has sunk to record depths. It has never been easier to win an election.
